Job description
A Top Environmental Consultancy are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Project Manager to lead and manage the development of NBS projects within the carbon and environmental markets in Australia.
This role focuses on creating and certifying projects under recognized schemes such as VERRA, Gold Standard, and the Australian Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of carbon markets, ecosystem services, and the regulatory frameworks governing environmental credits. This role requires expertise in project design, stakeholder engagement, compliance with certification standards, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-impact projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Development:
Lead the development of NBS projects focused on carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement, and ecosystem restoration under certified schemes such as VERRA, Gold Standard, and the Australian ERF.
Certification & Compliance:
Ensure all projects meet the necessary requirements for certification under relevant schemes, including compliance with regulatory standards, verification processes, and reporting obligations.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage with landowners, Indigenous communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners to secure project sites, build partnerships, and garner support for NBS initiatives.
Market Strategy:
Develop and execute strategies for the sale of carbon credits and other environmental credits generated by NBS projects, targeting both voluntary and compliance markets.
Technical Expertise:
Provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of NBS projects, including carbon accounting, environmental impact assessments, and biodiversity monitoring.
Project Management:
Oversee all aspects of project management, including planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and timeline management. Utilize project management tools to track progress and ensure timely delivery.
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate risks associated with project development, including land tenure issues, regulatory changes, and market volatility.
Monitoring & Reporting:
Develop and implement monitoring frameworks to track project outcomes and ensure compliance with certification standards. Prepare detailed reports for stakeholders, certification bodies, and investors.
Team Leadership:
Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of professionals, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring high performance across all project stages.
Skills:
Deep understanding of carbon markets, particularly in the context of NBS.
Familiarity with certification standards such as VERRA, Gold Standard, and the Australian ERF.
Strong project management skills, including experience with budgeting, timelines, and resource management.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficiency in carbon accounting methodologies and environmental impact assessments.
Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities and landowners.
Experience in market analysis and the sale of environmental credits.
Certifications:
Relevant certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) or carbon accounting (e.g., Carbon Management Certification) are desirable.
