Job Summary:
The Distribution Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and optimizing the distribution systems for efficient and reliable delivery of electricity. This role involves analyzing and evaluating the existing distribution infrastructure, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance system performance. The Distribution Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the safe and cost-effective operation of the distribution network.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Planning: Develop distribution system designs, considering factors such as load requirements, voltage regulation, system protection, and equipment specifications. Create plans for system expansion, upgrades, and modifications to meet future demand.
2. System Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of the distribution network, including load flow studies, fault analysis, and power quality assessments. Identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions to maintain system reliability and efficiency.
3. Equipment Selection: Evaluate and select appropriate distribution equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, and protective devices, based on technical specifications and industry standards. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and reliability requirements.
4. Project Management: Lead distribution system projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
5. Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Investigate and resolve distribution system issues, including outages, voltage fluctuations, and equipment failures. Develop maintenance plans and procedures to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
6. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with industry regulations, codes, and standards related to distribution systems. Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and participate in regulatory audits and inspections.
7. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of distribution system designs, modifications, and maintenance activities. Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, equipment, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in using distribution system analysis software and tools.
- Experience in designing and planning distribution systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Project management experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety guidelines.
