Job description
A fast-growing and dynamic green hydrogen energy company, that supports businesses to reach net zero emissions across their heat, power and transportation requirements is seeking to appoint an environmental stakeholder associate.
The Stakeholder Associate reports to the Head of Project Development and is involved in the project life cycle from the point in time that a Business Case Assessment (BCA) is kicked off with a potential offtake through to when the Final Investment Decision (FID) a project is taken and remains available to support throughout Construction and Operation.
The Stakeholder Associate will work closely with the Head of Project Development and Marketing and External Affairs to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key project stakeholders. This will include local authorities, the Central Government, statutory and non-statutory bodies (including environmental and technical organisations), industry and business, land and property, communities, and other parties to establish strong and positive working relationships.
This role will focus on identifying the social and environmental impact of our projects. Working with our environmental consultants and each internal project team to design and implement the most appropriate management and mitigation strategies in response to the social and environmental impacts and concerns tied to the projects and across the projects’ supply chain.
During the initial phases of early project development, the Stakeholder Associate will:
Identify and prioritise key project stakeholders into tiers of importance. This will be captured in the form of stakeholder mapping, communication plans and power versus influence.
Develop the key messaging for each project in consultation with the internal project team.
Identify the budget required to deliver the stakeholder engagement scope of work, including public consultation events, project website, visual materials, etc.
Identify the budget required to deliver the social and environmental compliance requirements such as biodiversity net gain plans and community benefit schemes.
Carry out land analysis and identify any key red flags to inform project development.
Provide updates and input into weekly/monthly reports.
Attend external meetings with initial stakeholders to introduce a Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and inform wider project communications plan.
Navigate conversations with key stakeholders to ensure they can identify all major red flags associated with the development of each project.
Work with environmental consultants to manage environmental impacts and design biodiversity enhancement plans, this will inform the ESG strategy and require working with the internal ESG team.
Key Competencies and Experience
5+ years of experience in Stakeholder Management with qualifications in Sustainability or other related environmental-focused areas.
Experience in a research role with an understanding of how to obtain the right level of information and present that in a coherent manner to internal and external stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software packages.
Ability to present ideas in a concise and logical manner.
Ideally a strong network in the industry and established relationships with a variety of stakeholders across the UK, including statutory consultees, MPs, parish councils, etc.
Understanding of the supply chain within the industry and how value can be driven through stakeholder engagement.
Previous Project Management, Project coordination, or similar is desirable but not essential.
Previous experience of mapping environmental constraints is desirable but not essential.
