Job description
A fast-growing firm specializing in technology and analytics to generate profits in energy commodity markets, with a focus on power and natural gas.
Since its inception, the company has partnered with a major financial institution and expanded to over 90 employees with a global presence. The firm began operations in the US Power and Congestion markets, initially trading in Financial Transmission Rights and later expanding into Power basis trading.
Over time, it has diversified into Natural Gas and Weather markets, as well as European energy markets through a dedicated entity. The company has also established offices across multiple regions to capitalize on global energy trading opportunities.
In the US, a key growth initiative involved a joint venture focused on renewable energy markets, including utility-scale battery development. The first large-scale battery project (150 MW) is set to go live in Texas, with additional projects in the pipeline. The company is also developing a quantitative trading platform, initially targeting European markets with plans for global expansion.
About the Role:
The position uses fundamental analysis techniques to support trading decisions in the long-term and monthly FTR auctions, and in Day Ahead and Real Time markets. It also is involved in speculative basis trades in the term and cash markets.
Responsibilities:
Transmission and congestion research, analysis and forecasting
Strategy development in the FTR auctions and Virtual markets
Transmission and Price risk analysis and forecasting
Analysis of the electric grid performance in the short- and long-term
Production cost, power system and other market simulation modeling for power and FTR trading
Quantitative development of models and trading tools using large data sets
Interaction with multiple teams including Trading, Origination, Development, Regulatory, and Plant Operations
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, engineering, business administration, or another quantitative field
Required Skills:
Power systems background and experience in PJM
Ability to develop their own modeling and infrastructure
Proficiency in Python, SQL/Databases, and Powerworld
