Job description
The Sr. Buyer role is designed to proactively support the Director of Procurement in all purchasing activities to drive revenue growth. The Sr. Buyer plays a pivotal leadership role within the procurement team, utilizing strong negotiation and analytical skills, and the ability to mentor and lead change. This is an exempt, individual contributor position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Procurement and Purchasing
Oversee all procurement activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchasing decisions.
Procure materials and supplies within established budget guidelines while negotiating pricing, services, and terms.
Negotiate with external vendors to secure the best possible terms.
Review and negotiate contracts and terms & conditions to protect company interests.
Collaborate with the Director of Procurement to secure competitive bids and negotiate material quotes.
Implement strategic sourcing strategies to optimize procurement processes.
Identify and build long-lasting partnerships with reliable suppliers.
Continuously challenge costs to enhance company revenue and protect financial interests.
Proactively follow up on material estimates and obtain necessary approvals.
Control procurement spending and promote long-term savings strategies.
Utilize advanced negotiation skills to secure favorable agreements.
Apply strong risk management strategies to foresee and mitigate procurement risks.
Analyze procurement data and trends to support decision-making.
Analysis and Risk Management
Employ problem-solving strategies to enhance procurement efficiency.
Use data analysis to predict and prepare for potential issues, developing appropriate control strategies.
Lead risk management initiatives for supply contracts and agreements.
Identify shifts in the negotiating power of suppliers and clients and adjust strategies accordingly.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure clarity in procurement specifications and expectations.
Provide expertise on materials, products, and equipment to improve supply chain and operational efficiencies.
Uphold and drive organizational values and strategic objectives.
Leverage emotional intelligence to effectively manage vendor and team relationships.
Ensure procurement activities align with financial goals and budgets.
Maintain a results-driven mindset with a focus on achieving objectives.

Influence key stakeholders and foster cross-functional collaboration.
Team Development and Mentorship
Train and mentor junior Buyers on the team.
Assist with onboarding new employees and familiarize them with procurement processes and software platforms.
Participate in the recruitment process for future Buyers.
Assume responsibilities and duties of a Buyer II when necessary.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Procurement.
Experience and Education Requirements
8+ years of experience as a Buyer in electrical contracting or distribution.
Proven experience purchasing commodities for large, complex construction projects.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, negotiation, or a related field is preferred.
Completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship program or extensive experience in the electrical industry is a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office applications and accounting or purchasing software.
A valid CA Driver’s License is required.
