Job description
The Grid Connections Manager will oversee the connection and commissioning of new grid connections for renewable energy projects under construction. This role involves collaborating closely with internal teams, including Portfolio, Engineering, Procurement, Development, and Operations & Maintenance, as well as external Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams, and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). The Grid Connections Manager will coordinate internal and external efforts to ensure timely grid connection, energization, and commissioning to full export capacity, before handing over to operations teams.
Key Responsibilities:
The Grid Connections Manager will travel between offices and project sites, with responsibilities including:
Supporting construction projects and ensuring timely commissioning and power export.
Liaising with the Grid Delivery team to secure grid connections during the development phase.
Reviewing contractors' designs, studies, installation, and commissioning schedules to prevent grid connection delays.
Ensuring clear, optimized design interfaces across all grid connection contracts, including ICP, DNO, EPC, MOP, and SCADA.
Regularly reviewing third-party reports and commissioning schedules, and resolving conflicts between construction and commissioning activities.
Identifying and implementing innovative technologies to accelerate net-zero goals.
Enhancing engineering and construction practices to reduce the carbon footprint of portfolio projects.
Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in grid connections for renewable energy projects is essential.
Background in project development, construction, and operational engineering activities.
Degree in electrical engineering (or similar), or substantial experience in electricity transmission.
Experience with Transmission Asset Owners/Operators (TA/OE), Independent Power Producers (IPP), EPCs, DNOs, or ICPs.
In-depth understanding of the grid connection process from start to finish.
Strong communication skills, capable of working with multi-disciplinary teams both internally and externally to achieve project goals.
Ability to review and negotiate technical and commercial proposals, tenders, and contracts.
Knowledge of safety regulations required to build, commission, and energize utility-scale electrical generation plants, with the ability to oversee adherence to safety protocols.
Full driving license.
